Adult Guardianship & Conservatorship, Rogers Orders, and Their Alternatives
Guardianship and conservatorship law and processes underwent a significant change in 2009 when Chapter 190B of the General Laws went into effect. Chapter 190B is a complex statute, and it is sometimes called Article V of the Massachusetts Uniform Probate Code or the MUPC.
The MUPC favors alternatives to guardianship whenever possible. This page will summarize guardianship law in Massachusetts and will discuss some alternatives including supported decision making, click on the links below to read more about each topic. A list of resources, some of which provide more in-depth information, appears at the end of the summary.
MAMH cannot offer legal advice. Anyone involved in or contemplating bringing a guardianship or conservatorship case should consult an attorney.
