Building Evidence-Based Strategies to Improve Employment Outcomes for Individuals With Substance Use Disorders

Evidence suggests that some interventions that combine employment services and treatment services can have positive effects on employment outcomes in rigorous studies, showing the potential of the approach. However, there is some indication that more comprehensive programs, such as those that offer supported employment services, may be more effective for those with substance use disorders than less intensive interventions, such as job search assistance. This is consistent with other studies of hard-to-employ populations that face significant barriers to finding and keeping jobs.
